Product Liability
Identify
a general product category and it is
likely that a lawyer in the firm has
been involved in litigation involving
that product or a substantially similar
product. A partial listing of some of
the products which attorneys in the firm
have a working knowledge by either
directly defending the product, or
participating in a case involving issues
concerning such a product, include
ladder and scaffold equipment; fire
suppression systems; pressure vessels,
electrical panels, components and
electrical systems; punch presses; blow
molders; food processing equipment
including bread and pasta makers;
bottling and canning machines; packaging
and boxing machines; saws and drills;
pneumatic and hydraulic valves;
pneumatic and hydraulic pressure
sensors; pneumatic and hydraulic hoses
and couplings; pneumatic and hydraulic
cylinders and pistons; helmets;
automobile and truck components
including seating systems, brake and
axle systems and engine components;
bicycle components including shifters,
brakes, rims, and wheels; scissor lifts,
electric wheelchairs and scooters; boat
components, and miscellaneous sports
equipment including snow skis, bindings
and boots.
Many
of the attorneys have developed such an
extensive working knowledge of their
clients' products that they have been
asked not only to handle cases
throughout the state of California, but
other states as well with the assistance
of local counsel. As noted in the
section on the firm’s litigation
practice, we have an extensive network
of experts in many fields of
engineering, failure analysis, accident
reconstruction, human factors, OSHA and
workplace safety to properly evaluate
the often complex liability issues
presented in product liability
litigation concerning defect, causation,
consumer expectations, and risk-benefit
analysis. Several attorneys in the firm
have lectured on these topics at various
seminars and are members of the ABA and
DRI product liability committees or
subcommittees.
